Kochi: Cargo handling operations at the Cochin International Airport Ltd (Cial) came to a standstill for few hours on Monday following a flash strike by the headload workers.
The workers launched their protest after the airport authorities stopped them from unloading goods at the godown of a duty-free shop.
"We had to stop workers as the customs had issued an order against deploying people who are not permanent employees in unloading items in the duty-free godown. The items meant for duty-free shops are known as bonded cargo as they have the customs seal and is under customs custody right from the moment it lands at the port,'' said a Cial official.
