Shimoga, Gulbarga airport promoters may exit

Bangalore: The failure among existing promoters of Shimoga and Gulbarga greenfield airport projects to reconcile their positions with one of them suing the other for compensation of Rs 3,300 crore in two separate cases could well lead to the Karnataka government handing over the projects to new entities.A source at the infrastructure development department (IDD) of the state government that is monitoring the two projects, told Deccan Herald, “We have initiated the process to look at replacing the existing promoters, given the fighting between the two promoters.”
Chairman of Regional Airport-Holdings International (RAHI) Umesh Kumar Baveja said, “It is highly unlikely that the stalled projects will be revived, termination looks like a fait accompli.”
The legal consultant to the two projects, V G Hiremath declined to comment on the state government mulling termination.
