After Sagar, chopper ride to Durgapur

Andal: The state government's initiative to bring different districts on the aviation map took its second decisive step on Monday with the introduction of chopper service to Durgapur from Kolkata. Just a day before, on Sunday, the government had started chopper services to Ganga Sagar.
Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Ltd (BAPL), a specialized infrastructure company pioneering the aerotropolis model and the promoter of Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport, on Tuesday organized a 10-minute 'Joy Ride' session for schoolkids.
The start of Durgapur services, however, holds significance as it indicates that the airport, where the chopper landed in Durgapur, is ready for commercial passenger operations. The airport - a centerpiece of the country's first Aerotropolis project, is expected to be operation some time next year. It is also in the race to become the first operational private greenfield airport among 21 other projects in the country.
