'Consider us a part of India, give us some extra land'

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar got candid during his inaugural address and requested Congress leader Digvijaya Singh to use his standing in the "corridors of power" at the centre, and convince the Indian Navy to part with some of its land to further expand the Dabolim airport.
Addressing the former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Parrikar said, "You can influence the corridors of powers at the Centre even better than our MPs; I request you to ensure that the Navy allots some land for further expansion of the airport. We are not asking for much, just 15 to 20 acres."
Continuing his tongue-in-cheek plea, Parrikar added "Consider us also a part of India and give us some extra land."
Harking back to 10 years ago, when plans for the new terminal building were not yet conceived, Parrikar recalled that the government had made a conscious decision to move the National Highway 17 B away from the existing building, in order to leave room for expansion.
