Government to float airport drainage project tenders soon

Kolkata: The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) will float tenders within a week for the Rs 61 crore stormwater network to prevent waterlogging in the airport and its vicinity. The irrigation department, which is partnering the project, will issue tenders in a month.
The high powered committee handling the 'integrated drainage scheme for Kolkata' met officials of the airport, KMDA, irrigation department and Rajarhat Gopalpur municipality recently to discuss the project and watched a PowerPoint presentation on the drainage scheme, charted by Jadavpur University. A working technical group has been formed for the project. The JU plan calls for four drainage outlays. Stormwater from the first two will be channeled into Noai canal, the third into Bagjola canal and the fourth into a local lake, say sources.
