KIA'S punctualilty soars on new lane change system

Bangalore: The boom in India's aviation sector has come with its share of problems. Growing traffic has led to flight delays, additional fuel costs and passenger discomfort. However, Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) is leading the way in punctuality, saving aviation turbine fuel and cutting down carbon dioxide emission by adopting the Lane Change System (LCS).
During an emergency the LCS allows an aircraft to "overtake" another aircraft stuck in the middle of the apron, thus ensuring that other flights are not delayed.
A KIA official told Bangalore Mirror, "Thanks to LCS, the KIA, which witnessed 81 per cent accuracy in arrival of aircraft in 2010-11, has increased accuracy levels to 86 per cent in 2012-13. Similarly, the accuracy rate of flight departure, which stood at 71 per cent, has gone up to 78 per cent."
