Kochi: The Cochin International Airport in 2013 often hit the headline for repeated incidents of seizure of smuggled gold.
There was a phenomenal increase in the flow of gold through legal and illegal channel by passengers from Gulf countries at Cochin International Airport.
In August, about nine kg of gold bars worth `2.52 crore was seized. While the gold imported by passengers through the legal channel during September 2013 alone was 3.26 kg, the smuggled gold was around 20 kgs.
In October there has not been seizure of considerable quantity while in November, 11.21 kg of smuggled gold was seized by the Air intelligence unit of the Customs.
