Smuggling: Three More Cops Under Scanner

Kochi: More policemen at Thiruvananthapuram airport have been brought under the surveillance of the Customs Department for their link with gold smugglers. Recently-arrested policeman A Navas has given the names of three more policemen, including an officer, who had assisted gold smugglers at the airport on several occasions. According to an official of the Customs Department, the names of these police personnel were submitted to the court. “The statement of Navas was submitted in a sealed cover to the Ernakulam District and Principal Sessions Court. These officers have been working at the airport for a long time and it is suspected that they might have assisted other such smuggling rackets also. These cops will be interrogated soon,” a Customs official said. One of the main concerns is that even after the IB took over operations of the Immigration Wing, smugglers are getting strong backing from the persons deputed by the IB.
