Nagpur: The state legislature's winter session for Nagpurians is synonymous to sprucing up of amenities in the city, at least the ones which come into the notice of the visiting ministers and MLAs. But, in an exception, the winter session has led to the postponement of the runway recarpeting work which was scheduled to begin on December 15.
Now, the work has been postponed and will begin on December 22. A notice to the airmen (NOTAM) has been issued in this regard, informed a senior airport official. "Yes, we have rescheduled it to begin a week later. The decision has been taken after keeping in mind the ongoing winter session of the Maharashtra state legislature," said P Anil Kumar, senior airport director.
During the winter session, many politicians use their chartered aircrafts for travelling to Nagpur. Closing down the runway would cause a lot of disturbance to these VIP movements and it would be difficult to manage all the extra traffic which triggered rescheduling.
