New Delhi: Over 50 flights were delayed at the IGI airport while five flights had to be diverted due to dense fog between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
Met officials have predicted a slight relief from low visibility conditions on Friday, while thundershowers are expected between Friday night and Saturday morning.
General visibility at the IGI airport fell to zero between 12.30am and 4am on Thursday. Though the runway visual range on the main runway was sufficient for operations, visibility fell quite low for around two hours. The new runway could not be used at all between 12.30am and 5am when the RVR was below 50m. "Three domestic flights and two international flights had to be diverted through the night. The situation could have been worse but there is very little air traffic in the early morning hours," said a source.
