Jaipur: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has put security agencies on alert after they came to know that over 76 kg of gold was smuggled through the Jaipur airport in the past three months and the smuggling went completely unnoticed.
The connivance of airline and immigration employees working on contractual basis has come to light in smuggling of this gold worth about Rs 22 crore. Sources said DRI stumbled upon the figure of 76 kg of gold after conducting an investigation into the seizure of 5.5 kg each at Jaipur airport and Mumbai airport in November. DRI studied the mobile call details of the accused arrested during these seizures and also gathered information through intelligence bureaus.
Following the alerts from DRI, the agencies including CISF and customs will keep an eagle's eye on the activities of the staff of various airlines.
