Ahmedabad: The bidding process for handing over the operation and maintenance of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport to a private player has been postponed by a month. The bidding, which was supposed to take place by last week of December, will now take place after January 15.
Earlier in 2013, the aviation ministry had decided to privatize six airports, namely, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur and Guwahati.
According to officials, there are several issues which are yet to be sorted out. "The companies interested in taking over Lucknow and Kolkata airports want some more time. As a result, the deadline for receiving RFQ (request for qualification) documents has been postponed to January 15 for all the six airports," said an official of the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
K N Shrivastava, principal secretary in the ministry of civil aviation, retired on December 31. Ashok Lavasa, special secretary in the power ministry, has just taken over as aviation secretary. This may delay the process further.
