Thiruvananthapuram: The fag end of the second day’s debate on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s address in the Assembly on Tuesday witnessed two former ministerial colleagues of the previous V S Achuthanandan Government admitting its follies in granting in-principle sanction to the proposed green field airport project at Aranmula.
CPM politburo member M A Baby, who was the Education Minister in the LDF Government, admitted that his ministry had committed the folly of granting in-principle sanction to the airport project.
But, he said, the UDF Government should not have proceeded with the project in the wake of revelations of cover-up of facts regarding the violation of over eight existing rules, including the Wetland Conservation Act, Paddy Reclamation Prohibition Act and Land Reforms Act. He criticised the government for its move to take 10 per cent share in a project which is implemented in violation of the existing laws.
