High-flying at 7: A boy's affair with planes

Bangalore: As an aviation hub, Bangalore has had several names, big and small, contributing to its image. Aditya Pawar, 7, is one of the newest entrants into this league.
'Magnetism', 'radio-control', 'aeromodelling', 'flight control', et al are vocabulary not alien to him. Still in grade one of an international school here, Aditya knows what it takes to aim high and succeed. The self-taught aeromodeller began flying simulators of remote control air vehicles (RCVs) in 2012. Soon, he proceeded to fly model planes, perfecting his loops, rolls and hover techniques.
Inspired by his father, Abhay Pawar, the boy won an under-15 category event - Aamby Valley International Aeromodellers Meet 2013 -even as he was the youngest. "All this began as a hobby," Abhay, also an enthusiast of the sport, told TOI.
"I noticed that he was crashing on the simulators, so I introduced him to fly as a buddy on an electric glider. By July 2012, he had successfully taken the glider out on a solo flight," he says.
