Mumbai: A contractor employed to flatten a hillock in Ulve in Panvel used detonators to wipe it out instead of using 'scientific methods' as agreed in the contract conditions.
Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan told the state legislative assembly last month that an inquiry had been ordered through the vigilance department of the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) over deviation from the chiseling and line-drilling methods.
As per contract condition, the chiseling and line-drilling had to be done with the help of machines and breakers. For this work a contract of about Rs 4.40 crore was awarded to a firm.
