In one day, airport customs nets 3kg gold

Mumbai: In the course of just one day, customs officials at the airport detected five cases of smuggling that involved more than three kilos of gold valued at over Rs 75 lakh.
Around 8am on Sunday when a Saudi Airlines passenger, Alibabu Mohiddin, who had flown in from Damman, was intercepted. He had 12 gold bars weighing close to 1.4 kg and valued at Rs 34.5 lakh hidden in a pocket stitched to the inside of his trousers.
The last interception was at 6.30 pm, when a Spice Jet passenger from Dubai, Ahmed Abbas, was found with two gold cylinders weighing 350 g and valued at Rs 8.5 lakh concealed in the rectum.
Jet Airways passenger Abdul Apkar, who had disembarked from a Riyadh flight, was found with four bars of gold in his underwear. Worth Rs 11.5 lakh, the gold weighed close to half a kilo. Another Jet Airways passenger, Mohammed Bapu, who had flown in from Dubai, was found with five gold biscuits in an inside trouser pocket. The gold weighed over 583 g and was valued at Rs 14.37 lakh.
