Kozhikode airport gets a garbage unit

Kozhikode: A zero-waste management unit has started functioning at the Karipur International airport from Friday.
The disposal unit has been set up at across a one-and-a-half acre land on the western side of the airport. A part of the waste management unit will be converted into a garden and farmland.
An incinerator to burn paper waste, a unit to convert food waste into compost and a biogas plant have also been set up at the location.
Garbage generated from the airport will be segregated at a designated place. Of this, plastic waste and aluminium foil will be sent to the recycling unit. The plant has been established with the help of Kozhikode-based Niravu.
