Maoists again fire at IAF chopper carrying CRPF IG in Chhattisgarh, nobody hurt

New Delhi: Suspected Maoists fired at an MI-17 Indian Air Force chopper at Chintagufa in south Chhattisgarh Saturday afternoon CRPF's inspector-general. At least three bullets hit the chopper while it was landing at Chintagufa, but nobody, including CRPF IG H S Sidhu based in Chhattisgarh, was injured.
Last January, Maoists had fired 19 bullets at an IAF chopper in the same Chintagufa area while it was descending near Chhattisgarh Police's Timilwada camp. Maoists had then fired 7.62 mm bullets from factory made automatic guns like self-loading rifle (SLR).
Since then, stringent procedures were adopted to sanitise helipads at Maoist strongholds across states, including Chhattisgarh.
"CRPF is currently rewiewing sanitization drills at all helipads in areas affected by Left-wing extremism," said CRPF IG (operations) Zulfiquar Hasan.
