Visakhapatnam: Security will be tightened at the Visakhapatnam Airport from Monday following an alert.
Sources in the security wing of the airport revealed that a high alert was sounded after information from the Centre that there may be attempts to hijack aircraft to demand the release of Indian Mujahideen founder Yasin Bhatkal.
The circle inspector of the airport zone of Kancharapalem police station, B Tirumala Rao, confirmed the alert and told TOI that they have already put a five-member security team in place at the airport since the Samaikhyandhra agitations had erupted. However, they would intensity the security and not allow visitors inside the airport from Monday, he said.
