Bangalore: Reminiscent of a popular advertisement by a tyre brand that had motorists and pedestrians, with mobile phones jammed to their ears, putting lives of other road users at risk, a model has landed herself in hot water for refusing to get off the phone while her flight from Mumbai to Bangalore was taking off on Wednesday.
IndiGo has accused Rochelle Maria Rao, also an anchor who hosted season six of the Indian Premier League, of interfering with flight navigation systems by speaking on her mobile phone during take-off. It is mandatory for passengers to switch off mobile phones while a flight is taking off or landing, but Rao reportedly threw tantrums when the flight crew pleaded with her to switch off her phone. Rao, however, claimed that the airline staff and co-passengers overreacted.
On landing at the Kempegowda International Airport, IndiGo executives lodged a complaint against her at the KIA police station. Rao could be charged with flouting air safety rules stipulated by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) under Sec 4 of The Supression of Unlawful Acts Against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982.
