Chennai: In a move to help passengers quickly retrieve their baggage at Chennai airport, officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) have considered building a second baggage ramp at the new international terminal.
A proposal has been sent in this regard to the AAI headquarters in New Delhi for approval, according to an official.
At present, the new domestic terminal has two baggage ramps while the international terminal has only one. These ramps facilitate the movement of baggage between the terminal and aircrafts.
The new international terminal, inaugurated in January and thrown open for use in August, handles only departure operations at present. However, the AAI official said that with only one ramp, there could be some congestion, which could lead to delays in retrieval of baggage when the arrival hall is commissioned. And so, authorities have considered building another ramp to make baggage retrieval faster and more convenient for passengers.
