Visakhapatnam: The Visakhapatnam airport has commenced 24-hour operations from January 1 this year.
The Indian Navy, which operates it, has made efforts to increase the watch hours of the airport for continuous operations in response to the growing requirement of the port city, according to a Navy release issued here today.
However, new proposals to utilize the additional hours made available through round-the-clock operations are still awaited from the civil operators. Naval authorities are also undertaking routine maintenance of the main runway from January 1. However, the airport continues to remain open for operations 24X7, and the repair work has been planned in a manner so as not to affect working hours of the airport in any way.
