Proposal to buy new aircraft gathers dust

Hyderabad: A proposal to buy a new aircraft for VIPs has been lying on chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's table for the past two months, thanks to the state bifurcation issue hogging all the attention. Following the blaze at the Begumpet airport in December 2012 which gutted the state-owned Agusta Westland-139 chopper, the government was left without an aircraft to ferry VIPs. It was forced to spend lakhs of rupees on hiring private airlines for their need, before deciding on buying its own aircraft. However, despite top bureaucrats explaining to the chief minister the necessity of the purchase, Kiran Kumar seems to have decided to ignore the file.  According to sources, the government has been spending Rs 2-3 lakh on each VIP trip.
