With land yet to be acquired, Cidco pitches internationally for NMIA

Belapur: Despite there being no clarity on the state governments plans to deal with the six villages against its rehabilitation package, the Maharashtra government went ahead and made a presentation about Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) and Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) at the recently-concluded World Economic Forum (WEF) at Davos, Switzerland.
According to official sources, Cidco managing director Sanjay Bhatia, who is part of the chief minister's team visiting Davos, apprised officials of Zurich airport management about various aspects of the venture, including land acquisition. Bhatia said that all necessary clearances like coastal, forest and environment required for the project had been acquired.
The state government and Cidco are moving ahead with the project regardless of opposition from six villages in the region. Land to be acquired from this villages is 457 hectares and this villages are important since they form core operational area of the airport.
The villagers have opposed relief and rehabilitation package of the state government and have floated a new organisation - Navi Mumbai Antarrashtriya Vimantal Sangharash Samiti - comprising educated persons from their villages to fight for their rights.
