58-yr-old businessman, three others held with drugs worth Rs 5 crore

Mumbai:  Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Saturday arrested Niranjan Shah (58), a partner of the late scamster, Harshad Mehta, along with three other people, including a Nigerian national for drug trafficking. NCB officials seized ephedrine and methamphetamine worth more than Rs five crore from two cars in which they were travelling.
"We had specific information about Shah indulging in drug peddling and hence we had kept a watch on him for nearly a month. After verifying the facts, we cornered him near the domestic airport and recovered the drugs," said an official from NCB zonal office in Mumbai.
Sources said that the NCB team had been following Shah from near his residence on Juhu Church Road. A search in the two cars resulted in recovery of 80.5 kg of white crystalline powder purportedly to be ephedrine worth around Rs 5 crore and another packet weighing 4.5 kg of methamphetamine worth around Rs 4.5 lakh.
