The global distribution system (GDS) provider, which is lagging behind its competitors Amadeus and Galileo in the local market, aims to double its market share in three years, Abacus India MD Jeet Sawhney, told ETin an interview. GDS companies are providers of of business solutions to travel agents and act as interfaces between them and airlines and hotels. A GDS negotiates commission structures and passes them on to agents.
Domestic travel in India has seen a downturn because of a slowdown in the economy hurting revenues of air carriers and the overall travel industry. Further low-fare carriers, which do not use GDS, have in the last few years steadily gained access to a larger share of the market.
