Pathanamthitta: The proposed private airport at Aranmula will cause disastrous environmental issues and the project is against the interests of the people, Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI-M] State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has said.
Mr. Vijayan told reporters here on Saturday that the government machinery had been misused to implement the proposed ‘anti-people and anti-environment’ project. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Anto Antony, MP, had been supporting the private airport company, thereby abetting the violation of various laws, Mr. Vijayan said.
Big guns were behind the airport company which wielded undue influence on the government. The company could obtain various clearances in violation of laws, he said.
