At T2, 4-hour wait for bags after 4-hour flight

Mumbai: Passengers of flights from the Middle East who landed at the new international terminal 2 of Mumbai airport late on Wednesday evening and in the wee hours of Thursday faced a volley of troubles after their check-in bags took hours to arrive, in some cases as long as four hours after the flight had landed.
Passengers on flights from the Middle East and South East Asia as these are prominent on customs officials' radar for gold smuggling cases. In the new T2, bags go from the aircraft belly into the inline baggage system screens bags before they are released to the passengers. "Most problems with inline baggage screening occurred because of the terminal and procedures were new. In about ten days, these problems will be ironed out," said a customs source. In short, bags arrived on conveyor belts late. Consequently, Wednesday night saw weary passengers put up protests. "Some Jet Airways manhandle some airline officials. There were hundreds of stranded passengers from different airlines, all shouting, protesting. Most were peeved as there was no airline or airport official around to give information on when will the bags arrive," said an airport source.
