Biju Patnaik airport set for major changes before international

Bhubaneswar: Changes are expected at Biju Patnaik Airport, with the taxiway between the apron and the runway set to be increased to facilitate movement of big aircraft. This comes ahead of international operations beginning at the airport.
At present, the taxiway belongs to category 4C. After expansion, it will belong to category 4D. "At present, the taxiway is not spacious enough to facilitate movements of Boeing-767 and Airbus-321 aircraft. The expansion is aimed at long-term benefits. After international operations, some airlines will be able to land their aircraft," said airport director, Sharad Kumar. He said expansion of the taxiway would allow planes to move smoothly into the apron.
"The taxiway will be expanded on either side by 15 metres. The initial work has already begun and work will be completed by the end of May," said Kumar.
