Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has requested the Airport Authority of India (AAI) to declare the Biju Patnaik International airport as the embarkation point for the Hajis of the state as soon as the operation of international flights starts.
Kolkata Airport has been the embarkation point for the Hajis from Odisha all this while.
“The Hajis as well their relatives from Odisha have to go to Kolkatta to see off and receive the Hajis. This is not only expensive but involves all kinds of hassles. We have requested the AAI that immediate steps may be taken to declare Biju Patnaik Airport as embarkation point for the Hajis of the state as soon as the operation of international flights starts,” said a senior official of General Administration department.
