Pune: Passengers scheduled to travel from Pune to Kochi on Monday by Spice Jet are up in arms after the airline informed them that the departure had been rescheduled to Mumbai airport because of closure of the airport due to ongoing infrastructure development work there.
The same reason has been given for those booked to travel from Kochi to Pune by Spice Jet on February 19, which has been cancelled as well.
However, Pune airport authorities were specific in stating that work under the Modernization of Air Field Infrastructure (MAFI) is in no way hampering flight schedules.
Speaking to Mirror, airport director Manoj Gangal said, “Airport closure is not the reason for the flight being cancelled. I don’t know why they (Spice Jet) have given airport closure as the reason to passengers.
Earlier this month, Spice Jet had demanded additional flights from Pune on days when the passenger rush increased. This flight has been cancelled as part of the airline restructuring its schedule, and the airline might have done so to facilitate their operations. Despite ongoing work under MAFI, many airlines are applying to provide additional flights.”
