Legal notices to MADC get Mihan cheap power

Nagpur: After a long wait and over four years of harassment the industrialists in Mihan have finally been issued power bills at subsidized rates by Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC). However, this did not happen because MADC had a sudden change of heart. The company officials reacted on receiving legal notices from some industrialists claiming liquidated damages to the tune of lakhs of rupees.
Industrialists also said that Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan was more committed towards the project than his two predecessors Vilasrao Deshmukh and Ashok Chavan. This was also a factor.
Companies investing in Mihan were promised power at the rate of Rs2.97 per unit. However, the industrialists never got power at this rate. They had to work on diesel generators whose power cost over Rs17 per unit. MADC then supplied them MSEDCL power which, cost them over Rs7 per unit. The industries refused to pay the bills until they were supplied power at the promised rate.
