Mumbai: The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) which had downgraded India's aviation safety ranking on January 31, has in its report justified its decision, saying it was unsatisfied with regulator DGCA allowing Reliance Commercial Dealers Ltd to fly its aircraft without checks proving their airworthiness as specified in its safety manuals.
The FAA also questioned procedures adopted by Air India in its report, fearing a fudging of records.
In its report, the FAA refers to Reliance Commercial Dealers Ltd (RCDL), a Mukesh Ambani-led company, which owns eight aircraft. The report, given to the DGCA chief Prabhat Kumar on January 31, mentions that the certification file for RDCL did not contain a record of proving flights conducted to demonstrate readiness of the operator as specified in the airworthiness procedures manual.
The FAA had conducted a safety audit in December 2013. Ironically, the point has been raised by FAA despite DGCA having communicated that "as committed to the FAA team during the 2013 audit, a proving flight readiness check (simulated) for RCDL, has been completed." A Reliance spokesperson did not wish to comment.
