DRI Gets Leads on Gold Seizure Case

Kochi: The DRI, which is investigating the case of gold seizure at Karipur airport on Monday, has got information that the consignments belonged to a gold smuggler identified as Haneefa, native of Panthakkal, Mahi. The two arrested persons, who were carrying 2 kg of gold each, had confessed to the DRI that the supplier of the gold had told them that Customs officials would assist them in leaving the airport.
According to DRI officials, Parambath Suraj of Kannur and Chakkiyot Muhammad Ansas of Panoor got the gold from a person identified as Naseer in Dubai.
The consignment belonged to Haneefa, a native of Panthalla, Mahi, who is involved in gold-smuggling business.
After getting to know that Suraj and Ansas were returning to Kerala, Naseer approached them and promised to give them `35,000 and the flight tickets. He had told them that Customs officials in the airport would assist them in getting out of the airport.On Monday, Naseer met the duo at Dubai airport and handed over the gold.They were told to carry 2 kg of gold each, so that they could get bail if caught by enforcement agencies.
