New Delhi: India is in the process of finalising a deal with France's Dassault Aviation for the sale of 126 Multirole Rafale fighter aircraft. Shadows was cast over the deal after India postponed the procurement of the jets till next fiscal year, citing lack of funds.
According to a news report published in the Time of India, the defence ministry has already spent 92 percent of the total allotted funds. The defence minister announced that no major deals will come through this year as there is no money left. Major procurement can only be possible in the next financial year, Antony was quoted in the news report. The minister said that with elections due in the month of April and May. The defence deal will be able to see the light of the day only after the new government takes shape.
