Govt plans chopper ride to Sunderbans

Kolkata: The state government plans to connect the Sunderbans - the world's largest mangrove forests and a Unesco World Heritage site - with Kolkata via a chopper service.
It was learnt that the service would be available once a week between Pakhiralay and the city.
Sources said that immediately after chief minister Mamata Banerjee expressed a wish for starting the chopper service, there has been a flurry of activity to identify land for constructing a helipad and a road from the helipad to the jetty, from where tourists could be taken to the rest of the Sunderbans.
The state is now all set to put the Sundarbans, Bengal's only other world heritage site, in the state's new found aviation map, by initiating weekly chopper flight to Pakhiralay from Kolkata.
