New Delhi : Security personnel at the Indira Gandhi International Airport went into a tizzy after an unidentified person called on the toll-free number of a private airline Tuesday evening, claiming that he was going to blow up Terminal 3.
Despite standard operating procedures demanding that such calls be alerted to the Delhi International Aiport Limited (DIAL), the security agencies and the Delhi Police immediately, sources claimed that security agencies were alerted of the call only 25 minutes after it came in.
The CISF personnel, the bomb squad and the Delhi Police launched searches at both Terminals 1-D (domestic) and T-3 (international). Nothing was found after the searches, sources said, adding it was suspected to be a ‘hoax call’.
Investigation into the incident revealed more alarming details. A similar call was received by the airline’s toll-free number earlier in the day as well, but the Delhi Police was not alerted about it at all, sources said.
