India set to enhance seat entitlements from Dubai

New Delhi/ Mumbai: The civil aviation ministry is preparing  to revise the bilateral air entitlement with Dubai which envisages allowing them a 20% increase  in seats to India. The move however will accentuate the bitter battle between leading west Asian carriers which include Emirates, Qatar Airlines and Etihad-Jet alliance, for a larger share of the lucrative India-west Asia to US and Europe market. Between 50% to 75% of Indian travellers to west Asia are transit passengers to US, Europe and Africa.
An inter-ministerial group comprising of representatives of civil aviation ministry and other government departments, will meet in New Delhi in a few days to consider Dubai's demand for an additional 20,000 seats per week-a one third increase from the 54,200 seats that they already have. However between Emirates and LCC flydubai this entitlement has been fully utilised nearly two years ago and these airlines have been demanding more seats.
