Relaxed rules to fly abroad another scam: TMC leader

New Delhi: Even as the government is all set to clear the Air Asia proposal which will allow it to fly overseas from the outset, senior TMC leader Dinesh Trivedi has written to the Prime Minister yet again, describing the civil aviation ministry's decision to relax the rules for flying abroad as "yet another scam".
The Federation of Indian Airlines (FIA) has opposed grant of flying licence to AirAsia-Tata JV airline. Stating that FDI was for investment in existing airlines and not startups, FIA had written to DGCA chief Prabhat Kumar on February 11.
Trivedi has argued that the sudden relaxation of the two preconditions for flying abroad (a five-year experience of domestic flying and a fleet of 20 aircraft) — known as the 5/20 rule — was solely aimed to benefit the foreign player.
