Skydiving is an intelligent adventure sport which is still in its nascent stage in India-only a handful of operators are braving it out to set up commercial ventures. These operations are being conducted with the expertise of skydivers with a defence background (Army, Navy, Air Force) or by inducting instructors from abroad where the sport has matured, and they accumulate plenty of experience.
The US is a mecca for skydiving. The sport is regulated by the United States Parachute Association (USPA) that lays down training guidelines, various licensing and rating requirements, qualifications for instructors and parachute packers. The Federal Aviation Administration of the US government is the regulatory body to monitor all matters connected to aircraft used for skydiving.
While India has the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to regulate aircraft operations, it lacks a body similar to USPA. Scrupulous operators follow USPA guidelines for training and other aspects; others may cut corners.
