Stress on air links to Buddhist sites

Kendrapada: Scholars and tour operators at a conference on Buddhism underscored the need for better connectivity to Buddhist sites in Odisha to tap their tourism potential. The three-day international meet, held at Udayagiri in Jajpur district, concluded on Monday. Director, tourism, Manoranjan Patnaik said, "The tourism department will organize road shows in countries like Sri Lanka, Thailand and Cambodia to attract foreigners to Buddhist sites of Lalitagiri, Ratnagiri and Udayagiri, known as the diamond triangle, and other sites in Odisha."
He added that non-availability of a direct flight from Benaras to Bhubaneswar is one of the main reasons behind dwindling number of overseas Buddhist tourists to the state.
