Taxi blues for flyers at Lohegaon airport

Pune: Over the past two weeks, passengers arriving at the Pune Airport in Lohegaon have been increasingly struggling to avail cab services during peak hours from the pre-paid taxi booth installed inside the airport building. Commuters claim that the authorised taxi service deliberately stalls operations to force passengers to avail post-paid cabs or autorickshaws at higher rates.
Owing to restrictions caused by the ongoing Modernisation of Airfield Infrastructure (MAAFI) project, the airport sees a massive rush between 9-10 pm, with all evening flights landing during this one hour.
The pre-paid cab booth is operated by Sainath Taxi Service, as assigned by the Regional Transport Office (RTO). Commuters claim that the booth does not remain operational during peak hours.
Bhushan Khadawe, an IT professional and a frequent flyer, said, “My flight landed around 9.45 pm on Saturday. On asking for a pre-paid taxi, the person at the booth told me that taxis were not available. I experienced a similar problem two weeks ago. I have now decided to book a private taxi in advance in the future.”
