Kochi: In a pre-election drive, a district-level special squad of the central enforcement agencies, including income tax, seized 20kg gold from a passenger, who arrived at Cochin international airport from Chennai on Wednesday night.
The squad was constituted at a recent meeting of central enforcement agencies convened by district collector M G Rajamanickam in a bid to check illegal flow of money during the election period.
According to the district administration, the enforcement agencies seized 20 gold bars, each weighing 1kg, from Antony Collins, who arrived in Jet Airways flight at 7.30pm. The passenger introduced himself as director of Southern Gold Pvt Ltd, according to officials. The seizure worth over Rs 25 crore was made by a team led by income tax officer Vishwanatha Panicker.
