Bhopal: Raja Bhoj International Airport, which has just eight flights in a month to Jeddah once a year, has got an extra burden of setting aside some of its scarce revenue for deployment of customs officials, even as it struggles to be in business owing to limited flight movement.
Airport authorities have, however, decided to write a letter to the board of customs department for an exemption from this expenditure. Started four years ago with high hopes of becoming a busy international airport with complete facilities, the airport is struggling till date as airlines are showing little interest in expanding or starting international flights from here, understandably so as they have not achieved commercial viability. At present there are only eight domestic flights from Bhopal. According to rule, the agency that avails facilities of custom department would have to bear expenses of officials deputed at their venue.
