Mumbai: A case considered to be the first criminal prosecution of its kind in the country against air traffic controllers for a 1999 agitation ended in an acquittal on Tuesday.
The trial judge S G Dighe acquitted five air traffic control (ATC) employees, P N Bahuguna, M K Sinha, Parmi Srinivas and Sudhangshu Gupta who were tried for charges under Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Civil Aviation. In 1999, during January and February ATC staffers had gone on a "work to rule" agitation alleging poor service conditions.
