Gold staple pins hidden in dry fruit boxes seized at airport

Mangalore:: The officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport on Sunday March 23 thwarted another attempt of smuggling and seized gold staple pins, totally weighing 577 grams valued at Rs 17,19,460.
The gold was concealed as silver colour coated staple pins in 18 carton boxes of vegetable dry fruits.
The was seized from the possession of a passenger named Nesif Kowal, aged about 28 years, a resident of Chengala, Kasargod. He arrived at Mangalore International Airport on March 23 at about 7.15 am by Air India Express flight IX814 from Dubai.
Operations were conducted under the supervision of Krishna Kumar Prasad, assistant commissioner of customs, Mangalore International Airport and were led by B Prabhakara Poojary, superintendent along with superintendents Lionel Fernandes, B A Kariappa, H G Yogesh and inspectors G Kumaraswamy, K T Preethi Suma, S Ranjan Behera and Ankit Kumar and Hawaldar Gulabi.
