Ozar airport gets first query on using runway in emergency

Nashik: Three weeks after the revamped passenger terminal at Ozar airport was inaugurated, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) received the first query from a private airline on using the runway for emergency landings as an alternative to Ahmedabad airport.
A five-member technical team of Jet Airways visited the Ozar airport terminal on Saturday. "At present, the Ahmedabad airport is used as an alternative to the Mumbai airport for emergency landings or night landings. Aircrafts scheduled to land at the Mumbai airport often have to carry additional fuel, considering the emergency landing option. Since Nashik is closer to Mumbai than Ahmedabad, the Ozar runway can be used as an alternative instead of Ahmedabad. The Jet Airways team conducted a technical survey of the runway," a senior HAL official told TOI on Monday.
"Apart from using the runway as an alternative to Ahmedabad, the company is also looking for night landings at Ozar from Mumbai, instead of Ahmedabad. Their third objective was to check the feasibility in commencing domestic air service from Nashik in future," the official said.
