Quicker immigration at Mumbai airport

Mumbai: Clearing immigration will be quicker at Mumbai airport as the immigration department proposes to do away with the secondary check for departing and arriving passengers. As per the current procedure passengers after clearing the immigration have to queue up for a secondary check and a police constable checks whether the passport has been stamped at the counter.
The department plans to stop the practice of secondary checks. This will happen along with the phasing out of immigration forms for Indian passengers on arrival and foreign nationals at departure.
"Trials will be conducted from next week and boarding passes will be scanned by immigration staff to capture the airline passenger data. Upon successful completion of the trials the secondary immigration check will be withdrawn,'' said an airport official.
