2 held for attempt to smuggle gold at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport

Hyderabad: Two air passengers from Dubai were arrested by customs officials at RGIA for allegedly trying to smuggle in 1.5kg gold on Friday morning. One of the passengers had disguised the gold as the magnet in a speaker he was carrying.
Customs officials, in a press release, said Abdul Nasaar, a native of Kerala, and Gulam Jilani, a native of Hyderabad, arrived at the airport by EK 526 Emirates flight. Nasaar, who carried speakers in his bag, stoutly denied that he was carrying any contraband during questioning by customs officials.
But they grew suspicious when they checked the speaker. On keen examination, the officials found that the nickel coated object was, in fact, not a magnet but solid gold. The yellow metal was neatly coated with nickel and given the appearance of a magnet in the speaker.
