Customs arrests man with Rs10 lakh gold in rectum

Mumbai: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the airport customs on Thursday held a woman for allegedly attempting to smuggle in gold bars worth over Rs10 lakh, by concealing them inside her rectum.
The AIU officials said that the woman, Soni Lachumal, was intercepted after she arrived on a Thai Airways flight from Bangkok.
“Four pieces of gold, concealed in her rectum, were recovered. The bars weighed 387 grams,” said Kiran Kumar, deputy commissioner (AIU).
The official said that in a case some months back, an accused died after a capsule containing drugs burst inside his body.
The official said that they have come across many cases where passengers have been found to smuggle in gold and other contraband by concealing it in the rectum.
